Great Wall Greets Golden Autumn, Chestnut Fragrance Goes Global | The First International Chestnut Harvest Festival Is Coming Soon!

2026-09-04

At the Foot of the Great Wall, Chestnuts Carry Memories of Old

Legend has it that during the Ming Dynasty, soldiers guarding Mutianyu planted chestnut trees beneath the city walls in their spare time. When autumn winds rose and the chestnut burrs cracked open, plump chestnuts scattered across the forest floor. Picked one by one, they were both rations and a small autumn joy for the frontier soldiers.

Over six hundred years later, that sweetness is now yours to taste.

A Sneak Peek at the International Chestnut Harvest Festival

In September, Mutianyu greets visitors with cool mountain breezes and the rich aroma of chestnuts. The air carries the scent of earth, and everywhere the joy of harvest is in the making.

A Harvest Street has been set up right at the foot of the Great Wall. From handcrafted chestnut creations born from artisans' fingertips to mountain-grown specialties from the surrounding hills, the finest harvest goods and creative ideas gather here.

From the robust, savory aroma of braised pork with chestnuts, to the sweet, cracked-open goodness of sugar-roasted chestnuts, to the mellow, lingering finish of chestnut-flavored coffee — the many flavors of the Great Wall Chestnut Feast come together in one place.
