2026 Huairou District "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day" Themed Event Held at Mutianyu Great Wall
— Multiple measures promote the dynamic inheritance of intangible cultural heritage
Amidst the resounding rhythm of traditional intangible cultural heritage percussion at the foot of the Mutianyu Great Wall, the 2026 Huairou District "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day" themed event officially kicked off. Organized by the Huairou District Bureau of Culture and Tourism under the theme "One Line of Intangible Heritage, Myriad Visions of Huairou," the event gathered nearly 20 intangible cultural heritage programs and distinguished national ICH masterpieces, creating an immersive traditional cultural experience for visitors. The celebration amplified the cultural atmosphere of Heritage Day, facilitating intangible heritage to move beyond exhibition halls, integrate into daily life, and connect with the world—infusing Huairou's strength into the development of Beijing as the national cultural center.

Splendid Intangible Heritage Experiences
Appreciating the Charm of Traditional Heritage at the Foot of the Great Wall
As a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, the Mutianyu Great Wall provided an exceptional cultural stage. The event buzzed with excitement as intangible heritage programs including velvet flowers, knotting, embroidery, and Yangmen fermented bean curd making were showcased. Representative inheritors demonstrated their craftsmanship on-site, allowing Chinese and international visitors to immerse themselves in traditional artistry. On-site photo opportunities and interactive activities generated integrated online and offline promotional momentum.

With their unique allure, intangible cultural heritage arts captivated audiences worldwide. International cultural tourism experience officers at the event apprenticed themselves to Huairou's ICH inheritors, voluntarily serving as cultural ambassadors to share China's intangible heritage stories with the global community.

Cross-Industry Integration and Breakthroughs
Activating New Momentum for ICH Revitalization
Guided by the principles of creative transformation and innovative development, Huairou continues to broaden development pathways for intangible heritage, promoting deep integration with commercial districts, cultural tourism, and hospitality industries. During the event, the Huairou District Bureau of Culture and Tourism signed a strategic partnership agreement with "Lin Lang Ji," an intangible heritage boutique store. This collaboration enables local ICH products and cultural creations to expand market channels through premium commercial platforms. As Huairou's core cultural tourism platform, the Mutianyu Great Wall continues to serve as a showcase window for ICH revitalization, helping traditional craftsmanship move beyond exhibition halls, reach the public, and connect with the marketplace—unlocking new development potential for intangible cultural heritage.

Systematic Protection Lays Solid Foundation
Passing Down Cultural Legacy Through Generations
With the Great Wall as a bridge, cultural heritage endures. The event also featured the inauguration ceremony for the ninth batch of district-level intangible cultural heritage items, covering six categories: traditional dance, traditional opera, quyi (Chinese storytelling), traditional fine arts, traditional craftsmanship, and traditional medicine. Featured programs included Pingju opera, Jingdong dagu (drum storytelling), Beijing embroidery, Chen's acupuncture, dough modeling, and various traditional handicrafts and incense-making techniques. To date, Huairou has documented 275 intangible cultural heritage resources through comprehensive surveys, with 70 officially recognized national, municipal, and district-level ICH items—establishing a well-structured, robust protection and inheritance system.

This Cultural and Natural Heritage Day series of events not only showcased Huairou's achievements in intangible heritage protection but also represented a powerful practical initiative to advance dynamic ICH inheritance in the region. Looking ahead, the Mutianyu Great Wall will continue to collaborate with local cultural tourism resources, regularly hosting distinctive activities such as "ICH in Scenic Areas" to enrich inheritance scenarios and enable the millennial Great Wall and century-old intangible heritage to flourish together. We look forward to using the Great Wall as a bond to help more people appreciate the beauty of intangible cultural heritage, carry forward our cultural roots, and inject cultural tourism vitality into Beijing's development as the national cultural center.
