Folk Show Ends, Chinese New Year Spirit Stays | Mutianyu Food Market Till Lantern Festival

2026-02-25

This Spring Festival, the air at Mutianyu Great Wall is filled with an especially strong Chinese New Year vibe. We warmly welcome friends from all over the world to gather here and celebrate the global Chinese New Year together. The foot of the Great Wall is adorned with colorful lanterns and resounds with the thunder of gongs and drums, brimming with the joy and festivity of the Lunar New Year everywhere. From the second to the seventh day of the first lunar month, twelve distinctive folk performances took the stage in rotation over six consecutive days, presenting a rich cultural feast full of New Year charm to visitors worldwide. Now, this folk show featuring the best highlights from 14 towns and townships in the district has come to a successful close.

Warm Moments Frozen in Time Beneath the Majestic Pass

The powerful beats of the peace drum strike up the rhythm of the Spring Festival, and the soaring golden dragon dance embodies boundless vitality. The amusing running land boat dance and the witty small cart show have sparked waves of laughter among the audience. Dressed in splendid costumes, the performers are not only entertainers but also enthusiastic hosts—they led visitors in the lively Yangko dance and taught children to beat the stirring drumbeats. Many foreign friends joined in with great zest, tying on red silk sashes, picking up colorful fans, and experiencing the humor of the donkey dance for themselves... This cross-cultural joy has repeatedly pushed the festival's exuberance to new heights.

Parents who brought their children to experience the traditional Chinese New Year found memories of their own childhood New Years here; sons and daughters who accompanied their parents to climb high and pray for blessings took family photos on the Great Wall. Foreign friends eagerly learned to spin silk scarves and dance with colorful fans, giving a thumbs-up and saying, "Chinese New Year is such a joy!" These smiling faces blooming beneath the majestic pass and the borderless applause during intangible cultural heritage interactions have all been frozen as the warmest memories of this Spring Festival.
