There are two routes for the Mutianyu tour: the west line and the east line.
West Line: Take the cable car straight to No.14 watchtower, and hike to No.20 watchtower. The last leg from No.19 to No.20 watchtower is the steepest but most spectacular, in which tourists have the opportunity to overlook the multiple ranges of hills and the winding Great Wall. Other sections are relatively flat. Popular photo spots include the shooting place of the famous movie “If You Are the One 2” and the Hero Slope.
East Line: Take the ropeway to No. 6 watchtower, then walk to No.1 watchtower. Popular photo spots are Zhengguantai (正关台) and Dajiaolou (大角楼).
In winter, it is recommended to take the cable car on the west line, since the all-inclusive cable car helps you keep warm and defend against cold. Physical strength allowing, it is advisable to take the cable car up to the Great Wall following the west line, and on the return trip, hike to the No. 6 watchtower and ride a slide down. This way, you will not only experience the fun slide but also appreciate the spectacular scenery of the west line.
